What is CBD?

CBD also known as Cannabinoids is one of the main compounds that can be found in the cannabis plant. CBD can be found in the hemp plant. This plant is normally the least processed form of cannabis as hemp farmers have not modified the plant. These plants are used to create CBD Oil. CBD is not psychoactive meaning it does not change the state of mind of the user. Although it does not change the state of mind of the user, there may be significant changes in the body. Some even having been found to have medical benefits.

Medical Benefits of CBD Oil

Reducing Chronic Pain

Some people have felt that CBD offers a more natural way to lower pain compared to conventional medications. Others have found it to provide anti-inflammatory properties

study done on mice and rats by the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that CBD had suppressed inflammatory pain. This could potentially be a new treatment for patients who suffer from chronic pain.

Reduces Cigarette Consumption in Tobacco Smokers

There was some promising results that CBD could potentially help people reduce the amount of cigarettes smoked which can help them quit smoking. Preliminary findings from Morgan. CJ. and others, found that smokers who used an inhaler containing CBD when feeling the urge to smoke, had smoked fewer cigarettes than people who had placebo inhalers.

Epilepsy

There has been many videos and stories of CBD oil helping patients who suffer from epilepsy. Results on a study done by Devinsky and colleagues on animal and human subjects found that CBD is ‘anticonvulsant in many acute animal models but there is limited data in chronic models’ (Devinsky, 2014). Although this study has found it inconclusive in human models, many videos have surfaced the internet with patients and even parents treating their children with epilepsy.

Reduce of anxiety

A study done by Esther Blessing and a couple other researchers have had results of CBD reducing anxiety felt by people with certain anxiety disorders. Normally, patients with chronic anxiety are advised to avoid cannabis as a whole since THC is psychoactive and can amplify paranoia and anxiety However, the study resulted in CBD potentially being able to help patients with the following:

  • PTSD
  • Panic attacks
  • Social Anxiety
  • Obssessive-compulsive disorder
