Looking for a glaucoma treatment?

Medicinal Marijuana can treat it! Yes, you read it right.

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is an eye disease that hits major nerves of vision, called the optic nerve. Optic nerve receives light-generated impulses from retina that transmits these to our brain where we recognize those electrical signals as visions.

Glaucomas effects are to increase the pressure of the eyeball, therefore, causing damage to the optic nerve and loss of vision.

Marijuana lowers pressure in the eyes says the National Eye Institute.

What are the cause?

Wondering why glaucoma existed? What could have triggered it?

Well, it’s the result of high fluid pressure inside your eyes, which happens when the liquid in front of the eye doesn’t circulate properly.

This fluid called aqueous humor, it flows out of our eyes through a mesh-like channel. If it gets blocked, the liquids build up and that it what causes glaucoma.

What are the symptoms?

  • Loss of visions
  • Redness in the eye
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Pain in the eye
  • Having tunnel vision or narrowed visions

Two Types of Glaucoma

  • Open-angle glaucoma it’s the most common. It is also known as wide-angle glaucoma. It drains the structure of your eye- it is called trabecular meshwork. It looks pretty normal but the fluid doesn’t flow out properly.
  • Angle-closure glaucoma more people from Asia have this compared to the west. It is also called as Acute/Chronic Angle-closure or narrow-angle glaucoma. It doesn’t drain the eye due to the angle between your iris and cornea is too narrow. It is due to it’s in the way. This can cause a buildup of pressure in your eye.

How does Marijuana Treat it?

Marijuana also lowers intraocular pressure when it is smoke to people with normal pressure and those with glaucoma says studies in the early 1970s. These effects of marijuana can prevent blindness. Although it would be wrong for folks against cannabis to label as a phony treatment.

Research supporting the utilization of marijuana as a therapy option for glaucoma, it is important for weed lovers, medical professionals and glaucoma patients to remember that cannabis only has a brief term effect on alleviating eye pressure.
